Mike Griffin
Mike Griffin began his studies at Berkshire School of Art & Design in 1998 with a one year Foundation course. Mike went on to obtain a First Class Honours in Fine Art BA at the Exeter School of Art, Plymouth University, graduating in 2002.
Mike's work is based upon the study of the abstract qualities of a visual image, i.e light, space, visual texture, line colour and overall composition. More specifically, the use of visual language to express all of the above. The work develops as a dialogue between the paintings and the artist and as such there isn't any prepartory work or final piece: the work is a continuous series with themes being revisited and new ones developed.
Mike works in both oil and acrylic with the use of ink in some in some paintings. He introduced circles as a format for many of his paintings which was chosen to work as a new antagonist in his work to adjust his approach to composition and provide an opportunity to change the works' emphasis.
