Claire Hughes

Claire began showing her creative ability at the age of three, when she copied the characters from her favourite books and cartoon programmes.  She naturally progressed into drawing the people and objects that surrounded her growing up.  After finishing her A-levels she continued her studies at Berkshire Art & Design College. There she specialised in fine art. Her main inspirations came from portraits by Rembrandt Harmenszoon Van Rijn and Stanley Spencer and life drawings by  Lucian Freud and Jenny Saville. Visits to art galleries in London are still a regular event.

Claire still enjoys fine art, but finds portraiture work too restricting on her creative ability.  Her focus has now turned to illustration, where she enjoys experimenting in many different medium and styles. These include ink, gauche, lino prints and digital imagery from comic book to realistic studies.
